History of Yemen in Brief

  • Yemen is, historically, known as apart of Arab land located in the south-west of Arab peninsula extended from Arabic Gulf in the east to the Red sea in the west .

Over thousands of centuries , as it had been reaffirmed by the historians the first ancient habitants found Yemen were ALKAHTANIYOON , the sons of KAHTAN Ben HOUD , the prophet peace be upon him .

Before , Islam , Three major states had been established in Yemen ancient time . Those famous states historically contributed visibly in the oldest human civilizations and still up to date the point of researchers and the men of history controversary around the world .

They are as follow :

  • Maeen state : It was established from 1500 B.C. to 1000 B.C.

  • Saba state : It was founded in 1000 B.C.

  • Himyer state : It was founded from 115 B.C. to 525 A.C.

Certainly , another Yemeni ancient state had been established like the kingdomes of KATABAN , OSAN , HADRAMOUT and other states still their traces unclear until now .

At that time , Yemen was the most important connected link Alsham , Ethiopia , China and India . Moreover , it was a commercial center used to control the sea and land important paths.

Confines with Europe , had given Yemen good opportunity and priorities to hold fruitfull commercial activities contributed in the oldest and famous Yemeni states progress and prosperity.

 

Population and distance area :

The republic of Yemen distance area is more than 555 thousands K.m. , Alruba Al-Khali Desert is not included .

Borders :

The Republic of Yemen land’s borders are Saudia Arabia from north , and Sultanet of Oman east , while Arab Sea from the south and the west the Red Sea .

Meanwhile , the Republic of Yemen has got a lot of important islands like , Soquatri , Mayon , Kamaran , greater and smaller Hunaish and ABD- ALKORI .

The important and strategical position being connected Asia .

Relief :

There are four main regions in Republic of Yemen . They are :

1-Coast plains .

2-Internal plains .

3-Plateau of Hudhrmute .

4-Western high lands.

5-Valleys .

The Coast plains are 2000km long , and Hudhrmut plateau covers most of the eastern port of Yemen and strongly sloping down to the sea southwards and gradually to the empty quarter northwards .

The most important valley of Yemen are : Moor , Sordood , Seham , Hadhrmut , Bana , Tuban , Ahwar , Jaza’a, Mareb , and Al-Khared . The longest of these is Hadhrmut valley which has an extention of other valleys like Masyllah and Maan. According to the last census conducted in Yemen 1994 , population of Yemen are 15,804,654.

Climate:

Republic of Yemen climate is characterized by variation and lying between the equator and tropic of cancer.

Geographers say that is characterized by two long seasons: Summer and winter and two other short: autumn and spring.

People who have been to Sana’a as visitors say they find the four seasons in a day . Over only 24 hours it is often hot as in summer and cold as in winter with having the atmosphere spring and autumn.

There are four main resources in Yemen.

  1. Economical Resources Mineral resources inYemen’s mountains and under its ground like oil , gold , iron , coal.
  2. Marine resources that are represented by wealth existing in the Yemen’s seas like fish, and salts.
  3. Agricultural resources, which are represented by crops like coffee, cotton, grapes, cereals, fruits and vegetables.
  4. Animal resources like cows, goats, horses, camels, bees and chicken.
